Well, yesterday, I became a member of a family group on Facebook....a family group that I know little or nothing about. This family is on my maternal side. Thanks for including me! How I got to this family is an interesting story....I have a high school friend named Peggy who lives in LA. It turns out that her pastor is my distant cousin. She put me in touch with her pastor, and he has put me in touch with this Facebook group!
Today is my dad's birthday. I have made him a red velvet cake.
Today is also the 69th anniversary of the day Pearl Harbor was attacked by the Japanese.

Genealogy Request about my inlaw's Ancestry
My niece (by marriage) in CA emailed today saying her father wanted information on my husband's parents' ancestry. Thanks to Ancestry.com, I was able to come up with the information fairly quickly. I'll soon find out if what I sent him is enough.....or, whether he wants more.

Ancestors on my mom's side
Just yesterday, a high school friend of mine, who lives in Louisiana, put me in touch with her pastor. He has the same last name as one of my great great great grandfathers on my mother's side. We exchanged emails, and I'm waiting to hear if he knows (or has heard of) any of my relatives. He did comment that his relatives' gravesites were in (or near) Paducah, KY. That is where my mom was born, so I think we are probably related! :-) I hope he has some information on this family, because I have very little!

Xerox photos of great great great grandparents
Last Saturday, June 12, 2010, we drove from High Point, NC to Lexington, NC to the Davidson County Public Library. There in the genealogy room in a vertical file folder, I found someone had been so very thoughtful to include a xerox photo of my great great great grandparents, Jacob and Anna (Hendricks) Feezor. Thanks! Then, Sunday we drove to see the cemetery at Jersey Baptist Church. I was hoping to find their tombstones, but the heat and humidity forced me back to the car after about 30 minutes. Maybe another time!

DNA Tests
A year or more ago, I paid for a Wilcox male relative to take a DNA test in an attempt to see if our Wilcox line is/was related to the Wilcoxes in the New England area. There wasn't a match. A Wilcox cousin did let me know yesterday that the only match we have come up with so far is with George Wilcox Sr. of Pittsylvania County, VA. Interesting....because I have other early ancestors that were from Pittsylvania County!

A Gift
Today a cousin sent me a transcription of a court case that ties my great great grandfather to his father. Before this, I have never seen the two connected in any way, other than by family word of mouth. Thanks, cousin! One neat thing is this very distant family cousin is also very distant geographically...half a world away. The wonders of the technological age!

Will of John Johnson in South Carolina
I'm fairly certain that last night I found the will of one of my ancestors, because the names are right and one of the witnesses (Stephen Sullivant) appears in both South Carolina and Kentucky. I plan to keep double checking, but I'm happy about this discovery!

Adding Additional Primary Sources
The past 2 days, I have copied one will, 2 marriage licenses, some photos of gravesites, and other family history from my brother in law's genealogy file. While none of the information is about my ancestors, it is helpful in the search of the ancestors of my husband's and children's ancestors. I was surprised to find that my brother in law had some of this information as far back as 1992. Had no idea that he was working on this while he was not yet retired from his full time work! Every little bit of information helps!

The Edwards Connection
Back in October 2009, I failed to mention that my husband and I flew to the Atlanta area to attend the Edwards family reunion. This was my husband's ancestors, and he is a great great grandson of the couple honored by this occasion. Fast forward to February 18, 2010. Our first grandson was born, and his parents chose to give him the middle name of Edwards....in honor of these ancestors. He is a great great great great grandson of this couple!
