My dad's hometown is Ripley, TN, but quite a number of his kin on his dad's side of the family reside in Covington, TN. Daddy had not visited Covington in a long time, so we spent several days there. Friday afternoon, May 2nd, was supposed to be spent shopping on the lovely town square, but a supercell tornado that passed through Earle, AR, passed just to the northwest of Covington. We stayed in our hotel until the all clear was reported. That evening, while having delicious barbecue sandwiches at a cousin's home, I saw a framed photo of my Fleming great grandparents for the first time in my life! Here I am almost 60 yrs. old, and I never remembered seeing them before. Their names.... Napoleon Fletcher Fleming, a Baptist minister and his wife Susan Laura Feezor Fleming. The next morning, we visited the nearby cemetery and found their gravesite. My brother and I walked that cemetery for about 2 hrs. before a cousin came to our aid and showed us the location.
Napoleon and Susan Fleming had 8 children, with my grandfather being one of the younger children. One of the older daughters inherited excellent photos of the parents, and I was so thrilled to have access to those photos. Keep looking for gravesites and cousins with photos. It will finally pay big dividends! :) We hope to visit again!
